What is the difference between T3 and T4 in this test?
Free T3 (Tri-iodothyronine) and Free T4 (Thyroxine) are the active thyroid hormones. T4 is converted into T3 in the body, which is the more potent form. Measuring both helps assess how well the thyroid is functioning.
What do thyroid antibodies indicate?
Anti-Thyroglobulin and Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies are markers of autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Graves’ disease. Their presence suggests your immune system is attacking the thyroid gland.
Can I have thyroid problems with normal TSH?
Yes. Sometimes TSH levels remain within range while T3, T4, or antibodies reveal dysfunction. That’s why a full thyroid panel is more reliable than testing TSH alone.
What are common symptoms of thyroid imbalance?
Hypothyroidism may cause fatigue, dry skin, cold intolerance, weight gain, and depression. Hyperthyroidism can lead to anxiety, rapid heartbeat, heat sensitivity, and weight loss.
How often should I take a bone health test?
No fasting is required for a thyroid test, however, it’s best to take the test in the morning, especially if you're on thyroid medication, to ensure consistency and accuracy.
